Event Identity Design

Klabu: ‘A club night where cultures melt together,
where genre boundaries disappear.’

KLABU is club night in popular music venue / night club EKKO in Utrecht, it’s a musical environment where you travel across continents — where Western electronica comes together with African rhythms and South-American melodies — where cultures melt together and genre boundaries disappear.

With the use overlaying primal shapes (cut and painted by hand), tribal elements, colour schemes inspired by the 70’s vinyl covers/African cloth patterns and a contrast of a hyper modern and a playful typeface, it creates a sense of depth to the identity that KLABU represents musically as well. It visualises the steadfast optimism of world music of the 20th century with a modern touch that blends right in.

With KLABU covering a very specific genre, it needed a unique and fitting identity. It’s an event held by and for lovers of crackling vinyl, dance events with substance, proper decoration and guests forming connections through music. KLABU’s event identity design is a solid fundament for future editions to come, through colour variations and form combined with strong typography and contrasts between graphic elements.
